Concert 1 – October 8, 2026 – Webber and Brahms

Our season opening concert brings Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music from the Tony Award winning musical The Phantom of the Opera to the Cailloux Theater stage. Distinguished vocal soloists Brandon Morales and Bronwyn White will bring the thrilling story to life in two selections from Phantom.
The second half of this storied performance features one of the central composers of classical music: Johannes Brahms, who was the heir apparent to the great Ludwig van Beethoven. Brahms Symphony No. 1 in C minor has the influence of Beethoven’s mighty 5th Symphony, set in the same key, and opening with thundering timpani strokes. Brahms, like Beethoven, ends his first symphony leaping from the somber minor key to joyful exuberance in C Major.

Brandon Morales
Brandon Morales, Bass-Baritone, has performed with various US Opera companies stretching from Portland Opera to Opera Orlando and recently performed Count Carl-Magnus in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music and the Sacristan in Puccini’s Tosca with Arizona Opera, and Don Pizarro in Fidelio with Queen City Opera. Morales has completed artist residencies with Arizona Opera, Virginia Opera, and Toledo Opera, and was an apprentice artist with Santa Fe Opera. He began his musical studies at Texas State University, has received a Master’s in Voice from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Recently, Morales has performed routinely with his hometown’s Opera San Antonio and recently in Austin Opera’s production of La Boheme.
Bronwyn White
Bronwyn White, soprano, is an alumna of Young Artist programs at Fort Worth Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Natchez Festival of Music, Opera San Antonio, and the iSing! International Festival in China.
She has appeared as a soloist in concert with Fort Worth Symphony, Suzhou Symphony, SOLI Chamber Ensemble, EnsembleNewSRQ, Fort Worth Opera Frontiers, Utah Festival Opera Orchestra, Verdigris Ensemble, and the Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra. Bronwyn has been featured as a soloist in recordings of new music with SOLI Chamber Ensemble, Verdigris Ensemble, and Fort Worth Contemporary Arts. As a recitalist, Bronwyn has collaborated with the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Art Song Center, and the Ecumenical Center of San Antonio. Bronwyn has won prizes at Young Texas Artists Music Competition, Wednesday Morning Music Club Competition, Lois Alba Aria Competition, Metropolitan International Music Festival Competition, Friday-Woodmere Music Club Competition, New Jersey State Opera Competition, and the Concorso Lirico International Competition.
She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Master of Music from State University of New York – Purchase, and an Artist Diploma from Texas Christian University. Upcoming performances this season include performances as the Blue Fairy/Olympia in Pinocchio with The Magik Theatre/Opera San Antonio.
