For Release: September 8, 2025–Kerrville’s Symphony of the Hills, a 70-member professional orchestra that draws membership from Kerrville to San Antonio and throughout the Hill Country, has teamed up with Trinity University in San Antonio to offer a benefit concert in San Antonio on Thursday, October 16, at 7:30pm, in Laurie Auditorium, 1 Trinity Place, San Antonio, TX.
The concert is titled “A Time To Remember: Tribute Concert for Kerrville.”
“Shortly after the July 4 catastrophic flooding and loss of life and property along the Guadalupe River, musicians from the Symphony of the Hills volunteered their services to perform a concert in San Antonio that would represent the Hill Country arts community’s care and sympathy towards flood victims,” said Dr. Eugene Dowdy, Conductor & Artistic Director. “Musicians expressed grief, shock, anguish, and charity in response to the historic damage and loss of life. Orchestra members suggested that the symphony perform in San Antonio as a sign of outreach and community partnership in responding to the great need present in our area. The Trinity University Department of Music and Laurie Auditorium quickly stepped up to co-sponsor this event, providing both musical support with the Trinity choirs appearing, as well as logistical support in providing a beautiful venue.
The music program is a modified version of the orchestra’s season-opening October 9 concert in Kerrville:
Gustav Mahler—Adagietto from Symphony No. 5
Beethoven – Symphony No. 7 in A Major, 1st and 2nd movements
Amy Beach – “Gaelic” Symphony, 4th Mov’t
Mozart – Concerto for Clarinet in A, K. 622, 2nd and 3rd movements
-Vanguel Tangarov, clarinet
Arvo Pärt – Da pacem Domine for Choir and Orchestra
-Trinity University Choirs, Anna Osterman & Gary Seighman, conductors
“We pivoted on our opening work and decided to offer Gustav Mahler’s peace and soul-filled Adagietto from his Symphony number 5,” Dowdy said. “We’ll end with a piece for Choir and Orchestra, featuring the Trinity University Choirs under the direction of Anna Osterman and Gary Seighman.”
